UnderAPound (Ninety Nine Pence Danke They Found Him In The Barn)
I'm quite proud of this, it all sits together pretty well and its only because by chance i happened upon this enid blyton "five got to treasure island" cover sat on the side in a sliced up bit of the guardian.

works well asa back drop and it does look like it could well be a cheap and cheerful little photocopied fanzine.

might add some colour or just keep it mono.

Other Stuff

Just a couple of photos grabbed from my studio space of some stuff that i did at the end of last week.

Today I did some monoprinting too however its still rarther moist!

Cut And Paste Please

Okay so following on from the felt tip drawings and developing the idea of giveing my work more of an impact and importance and preseence i thought it would be good to see how using the same type as a newspaper headline would work ( and this also relates back to the work using newspaper images before)

Something about newspapers seems so relevant to contemporary design , a rough and ready easily accessible source material for design in the western world, we are lucky that we have a choice of press i guess you hear about things in other countries who have really bad newspapers that are ruled by the governemt. its probably hard to tell whats real but somehow if its in the newspaper it does seem more real, seeing a photograph of war seems more real than on the television news. physical presence still counts for a lot in our modern culture even with digital downloads and mp3s and the interenet and blogs and things.

three dee

also it might be interesting to experiment with 3 d work like the 3d glasses from the 90s and the WHAM i have done.

Analysis

Looking over my work from the previous project and my recent felt tip sketchbook a selection between more sentence/story/poetry based writings mixed in with a selection of one word complimentary words. No specific theme or content should be referenced just things which i think about and sound good when written down. funny? perhaps... general musings on life i guess. something which just occurs in my head.

continue to use hand rendered type as a way to communicate more from the stories. adds character to the pieces.

Should consider final format for printed matter showcase. will it be a book or a poster, how will it be printed? screen? photocopy? Is this something other people would be interested in?

From seminar:

Why is it hand rendered type?

Like I've said it is generally a style, aesthetics thing and when i have tried to use a computer to typographically represent them then it never seems to look right, like they are missing some spirit or something

Why is it so important that it's my writing?

Generally just about a self expression aspect to my work, opinions and such. Its also easier to make something up rather than reason a piece of found writing such as song lyrics and things

How important is the poetry?

Not necessarily poetry, its more just a term to encompass all the writings. But they always have some kinda of poetic or lyrical persuasion

In what way am I reacting?

Reacting to the world around me, how i see it and feel about it, certain issues and non-issues, important or trivial, the mixture is good because that reflect life the best between good and bad things.

How do I want other people to view it?

I want them to see it and get something from it whether it be useful or enjoyment or it suggests something to them, makes them understand something, maybe even help them

So the accompanying images to this post is a couple of contact sheets of them as its 45 pictures which would be far too many to post so these are just what i think are the best ones.
